How the Schedule Arrived Last Year

For the 2026 examinations, CBSE first put out a tentative date sheet on 25 September 2025, with papers starting on 17 February 2026. It explained that the final schedule would follow once schools had submitted their candidate lists. Around 45 lakh students were expected across 204 subjects. No comparable tentative schedule for 2027 has been reported so far, so the safest approach is to keep checking the board’s notices instead of trusting predicted dates.

When the timetable does appear, expect separate documents for Class 10 and Class 12. Read our dedicated guides for each: CBSE Class 10 Date Sheet 2027 and CBSE Class 12 Date Sheet 2027.

Two Board Exams for Class 10: What You Need to Know

Since 2026, Class 10 students have two chances at the board examination within one academic year. The first exam, held around February and March, is compulsory for everyone. The second, planned for May, is optional and meant for improvement.

  • You can reappear in up to three subjects chosen from Science, Mathematics, Social Science and languages.
  • For each subject, the higher of your two scores is counted, so a weaker second attempt does not pull your result down.
  • Only the theory paper is repeated. Internal assessment marks stay as they are.
  • Students who miss three or more subjects in the first exam are not eligible for the second one.

Class 12 still has a single board exam. Rules can change, so confirm the details for 2027 in CBSE’s circulars or with your school. Our Class 10 guide explains the system in more detail.

Study Plan to Follow Before the Date Sheet Arrives

  1. List your weak chapters. Mark topics you find hard and chapters you have not finished yet.
  2. Give hard topics fixed slots. Short daily sessions work better than a last-minute rush.
  3. Write timed answers. Attempt a full paper in the actual time limit and check whether you finish comfortably.
  4. Review every mistake. Note where you lost marks and why, then practise those areas next.
  5. Fill the calendar later. When the official dates arrive, add them to your plan and give extra time to papers that fall close together.

Sample Papers and Marking Schemes

CBSE publishes sample question papers and marking schemes on its academic website, cbseacademic.nic.in. Use the set for your own class and session, solve it in exam conditions, and then compare your answers with the marking scheme to see what earns full marks.
